01. Interview

Notes :
"You're more consistent than U2..."

In January of this year, Tony Fenton was invited to join Bono and wife Ali at home in Killiney to record an interview with the U2 frontman. Today, May 4th, the interview was broadcast in a special one-hour show on Today FM. Tony had wanted to interview Bono for many years and, after bumping into each other on a night out, Tony asked Bono to come onto The Tony Fenton Show around the release of the band’s new album. Bono promised he would. Unfortunately Tony was in hospital when 'Songs of Innocence' was released. Upon hearing of Tony’s ill-health, Bono, true to his word, welcomed Tony into his home to record the interview. During the interview, Bono and Tony compare their experiences of growing up on Dublin’s Northside, a stone’s throw from each other. While Tony avoided trouble, Bono was in the thick of it. Bono chats openly about the band’s upcoming tour, including details of Irish shows this Christmas, and spills the beans on previous tours, revealing his favourite tour, the highs and lows of being on the road and why he was whacked on the head with a hairdryer. During the interview, Bono pays Tony the compliment of saying that the band are big fans of his and how he is “more consistent than U2”. It was the last interview that Tony recorded. Tony sadly passed away on Thursday 12th March this year.

Enjoy,
